Chris Brown

Chris Brown composes and performs with electronics. His focus on collaboration and improvisation.

He has been a member of the performing groups Room, Glenn Spearman Double Trio, and The Hub. Other collaborators have included Butch Morris, Anthony Braxton, Wadada Leo Smith, and John Zorn. He has received commissions from the Rova Saxophone Quartet, Abel-Steinberg-Winant Trio, Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, and Wallace A. Gerbode Foundation. Performances have included five New Music America Festivals, STEIM Symposium on Interactive Composition (Amsterdam), LACE (Los Angeles), Bourges Festival, Taktlos Festival (Switzerland), Moers Festival, ISEA 95, West Deutsche Rundfunk (Cologne), and Denmarks Radio (Copenhagen). His electronic works draw upon home built circuitry and computer networking. A current project is 'The Eternal Network Music Site', which uses Grainwave instruments to allow anyone to play and / or listen to network music via the Internet.

Brown lives and works in Oakland, California. He is a professor of music at Mills College.
