Composer, educator, and software designer, Karlheinz Essl's work centers around computer-aided composition strongly influenced by serial music. He also composes interactive music, often created with the MAX programming environment. Essl's compositions have been performed by major ensembles throughout the world, including Klangforum, XASAX, and Arditti String Quartet at Vienna's Wien Modern, Ars Musica (Brussels), Schoenberg Festival (Duisburg), and Salzburg Festival. He has been composer in residence at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse für Neue Musik, and he has worked at Ircam. His music has been recorded by Soundprints and Tonos. Karlheinz Essl lives in Linz, Austria, and teaches at the Bruckner-Conservatory. |
