Michael S. Horwood

"Since the late 1980's, many of my compositions have returned to his original interest in Romantic period music. I believe that my most successful works have been those which are based on extra-musical concepts, such as the environmental crisis."

Composer of instrumental, vocal, and electroacoustic music. Horwood's more than 60 compositions constitute a kaleidoscope of the traditional and the avant-garde, often based upon extra-musical concepts. He has composed music for choral ensembles, brass quintet, symphony orchestra, percussion groups, jazz bands, and incidental music for the theatre.

His music has been commissioned by the Canada Council, Ontario Arts Council, and Festival of the Sound (Parry Sound, Ontario), and performed by pianist Mary Kenedi and Sault St. Marie Symphony.

Michael Horwood is currently Professor of Music and Humanities at Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology, Etobicoke, Ontario.
