Joel Chadabe has created beautiful abstractions of all-time jazz favorites. You feel rather than hear the songs. The sounds and textures are gorgeous, and the flow is smooth, yet it's also fascinating. As Chadabe put it, "a lyrical surface to an underlying complexity." Well, it's hi-tech lyricism at its best.
The compositions are 'Valentine' (after My Funny Valentine), 'Many Mornings Many Moods' (after In a Sentimental Mood), 'A Touch of Africa', 'You' (after There'll Never Be Another You), 'Echoes of Brazil' (after Corcovado), 'Another Approach to Rhythms', 'Elusive Lady' (after Stella By Starlight), and 'Spring' (after It Might As Well Be Spring). And the performances by Chadabe (at a Macintosh computer), with Jan Williams (vibraphone, marimba, wood blocks, bottles, and other percussion), Bruno Spoerri (saxophone), and Reto Weber (udu drum, djembe) are elegant.
