Kermani is a musician and sound artist who combines sound poetry with movement and multi-media Utilizing video text and computer generated imagery, Kermani presents poignant episodes of the human condition, weaving extended vocal techniques with live electronic processing and movement. She often performs solo and collaborates with video artists, computer programmers and designers. Her work has been performed at The Kitchen, The Knitting Factory, La Mama, Nat Horne Theater (New York), Contemporary Arts Museum (Houston), The Nervous Center (Chicago), Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, The Marsh (San Francisco), New Music Across America (Albuquerque), Sonic Disturbance Music Festival (Cleveland), Turm Jazz Club(Halle), and Leerer Beutel (Regensberg). Collaborators have included choreographers Melli Hoppe, Laura Staton, and Sarah Irwin. She has received awards and grants from The Puffin Foundation, Franklin Furnace, Meet The Composer, NEA, and The Grand Marnier Foundation. She has also appeared as vocalist and composer for the new music trio, Trousers, and in the performance duo DREADmonad with Don Malone. Kermani is founder and artistic director of MiShinnah Productions. She lives and works in upstate New York. |
