Eric Lyon

"I design works to evoke potentials of disorientation, adoration, crowds and power, employing oracular signal processing, computer viruses, audio over-exposure, and 20th century structuralism, among many other techniques in a toolkit of amoebic intensity."

Eric Lyon composes in digital, acoustic and hybrid media. He is a founding member of the annual Bonk Festival of New Music. Lyon has taught computer music at Keio University, the Academy for Media Arts and Sciences in Gifu, Japan, and currently teaches in the Music Department of Dartmouth College. Recent works include "Second Skin" for live computer, premiered at the Electric Words Festival in San Francisco, and "FrM" a computer music composition premiered at WoodStockhausen. Both works were composed at the Djerassi Resident Artist Program. His latest contribution to music theory is a paper on the electronic counterpoint of Aphex Twin, delivered to the Experience Pop Music Conference in Seattle. Lyson has developed and released many programs for sound manipulation, particularly in the spectral domain. FFTease, a collaboration software project with Christopher Penrose has found favor in the Max/MSP community, and POWERpv attracts composers who enjoy working in the Unix environment.

Lyon travels widely, participating in conferences and presenting his music.
