McLean Mix

"I don't believe in separating the acoustic insrument from the electronic instrument. I try to get the same kind of gestural quality out of one as out of the other." -- Priscilla McLean

"My compositional ideas revolve very much around the idea of gesture ... But in electronic music we have the luxury of not having to filter it down to the level of notes. We can keep the primordial idea intact. " -- Barton Mclean

The McLeans are a husband and wife duo who collaborate in the creation and performance of electronic music, soundscapes, and multi-media concerts.

They have presented their audience-interactive installations and workshops at Athens International Film Festival, MASS MoCA, Oakland Museum, University of Texas, New Music America, SEAMUS, North American New Music Festival, Bourges, and Internationale Gaudeamus Muzeickweek. Their grants and honors include (Barton) Virgil Thompson Foundation, New York State Foundation for the Arts, MacDowell Colony Fellowship, National Endowment for the Arts, and Martha Baird Rockefeller Fund (Priscilla), Asian Cultural Council, Virgil Thompson Foundation, American Music Center, Leighton Artist Colony (Banff), MacDowell Colony Fellowship, and Charles Ives Center for American Music Composer Residency.

Families that play together stay together. As The McLean Mix, they've been touring the world for more than 20 years
