![]() Pauline OliverosDeep Listening is listening in every possible way to every thing possible to hear no matter what one is doing. Such intense listening includes the sounds of daily life, of nature, of one's own thoughts, as well as musical sounds. Deep Listening is a life practice. With a focus on improvisation, electronic music, ritual, teaching, and meditation, Pauline Oliveros has created a body of work with a vast breadth of vision. She performs extensively worldwide, solo and with Deep Listening Band. Oliveros is recipient of a SEAMUS Award for Lifetime Achievement, American Music Center Letter of Distinction, City of Philadelphia Citation, City of Bonn Beethoven Prize, University of Maryland Honorary Doctor of Music, Gaudeamus Prize for Best Foreign Work, Foundation for Contemporary Performance Award, and Bessie Award for Music Composition. The City of Houston declared a Pauline Oliveros Day in 1984. She has received grants and fellowships from the NEA, and Guggenheim Foundation, commissions from West German Radio, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Sonic Youth, SEM Ensemble, Rova Saxophone Quartet, New American Radio, and Berkshire Music Festival. She is author of The Roots of the Moment: Collected Writings 1980-1996, Software For People: Collected Writings 1963-1980. Pauline Oliveros teaches at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She actively composes and performs worldwide. |
