Lois Svard

"I have always been fascinated with, and am drawn to performing, the music of composers who push the sound envelope, whether it's Franz Liszt flirting with atonality in the 19th century or Annea Lockwood, John Cage, or Alvin Lucier finding new sound landscapes inside the piano in the 20th century."

Lois Svard is a classically trained pianist with a postmodern sensibility who has commissioned and premiered works by experimental composers such as Robert Ashley, William Duckworth, Kyle Gann, Jerry Hunt, Elodie Lauten, Annea Lockwood, Alvin Lucier, Kirk Nurock, Stephen Scott, and "Blue" Gene Tyranny. She has performed as a solo pianist in Europe and throughout the US and has also worked with solo dancers and with dance companies.

Svard is on the faculty at Bucknell University where, in addition to teaching piano, she has designed and taught interdisciplinary courses on the creative process and on cities and the culture of creativity.
