Created in response to the war in Bosnia as a gift of healing and discovery, 'theVoyage', a fantasy play with music and soundscapes composed, arranged and performed by Svjetlana Bukvic and Rick Nichols, was premiered in Sarajevo in 1998. The music blends indigenous rhythms and percussion, symphonic textures and soothing harmonies, sounds of nature (ocean waves, rivers, wind, rain, crickets, etc), and male/female voices singing together.
Part 1 of this disc is the entire story with narration.
Part II contains music and soundscapes only. As Vahidin Brljevic wrote in Dani (Sarajevo), "The elements of American minimalism, classical music and ethnic music are intertwined in a unique story of union, separation and reunion." As Dianne Ballon, radio producer, said, ""What a beautiful, beautiful piece!"
