"I am inspired by the infinitely complex textures, rhythms, and colours within the ordinary sounds of everyday life ... I hope that people can learn to hear the incredible within the ordinary."

Ellen Band creates sound and music pieces for many contexts including performance, installation, and concert settings. Her work joins sound art, sculpture, and musical performance, often with projections, video, and live performance.

In addition to her solo work, Ellen Band has collaborated with sound artist Ed Osborn, percussionist Brian Johnson, dancer and choreographer Susan Osberg, visual artist Leila Daw, performance artist Nancy Adams ... Her work has been presented at Experimental Intermedia (New York), Music Gallery (Toronto), Mills College (California), Mex (Dortmund, Germany), Schwarzenberg'schen Meierie (Austria), NonSequitur Foundation (New Mexico), Sound Symposium 2000 (Newfoundland), SubTropics Festival (Miami), Mobius (Boston), Institute for Contemporary Art (Boston)... Her awards include an American Composers Forum Commission ... As an educator, she has taught and developed curriculae for sound art at Wheelock College, Berklee College of Music, School of the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), and Massachusetts College of Art. In 1994, she founded Audible Visions, a performance space for new music and sound art in the Boston area.

Ellen Band currently lives and works in Boston and travels widely as a performer.
