![]() Stephen Beck "My goal is to enhance and expand a performer's potential for expressiveness, technique and, most importantly, timbre." Stephen Beck is a composer, software designer, and educator. His music includes electronic and acoustic works for solo, ensemble, and theatrical performance. His current focus is computer-based interactive composition and music for virtual musical instruments, where performers of acoustical instruments play with and in counterpoint to computer-controlled synthesizers. Beck's awards include a Boulez Fellowship from UCLA and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, a Fulbright Fellowship to study computer music at IRCAM. He has been president of SEAMUS and chair of the LSU Festival of Contemporary Music Steering Committee. Beck lives in Baton Rouge, Louisana, and teaches at Louisiana State University.
