John Bischoff

"I picture a musical soul as a large, circular room with windows. Each window opens onto its own landscape which recedes into the distance. John Bischoff is a composer and performer of electronic music and an innovator in music for computer networks.

He has performed extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area, throughout the US including New Music America festivals in 1981 and 1989, and in Europe including the Festival d'Automne in Paris, Fylkingen in Stockholm, Het Apollohuis in Holland, and the Academie der KŁnste in Berlin. He was a founding member of The League of Automatic Music Composers, the first computer network band. Since 1985 he has performed and recorded with the network band the Hub. Bischoff a recipient of a grant from the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts in New York for his exceptional work in electronic music. His essays, authored and co-authored, have been published in Foundations of Computer Music, Computer Music Journal, Leonardo Music Journal, I.S. Journal, and Microcomputer Network Music.

John Bischoff currently lives in the Bay Area, teaches at Mills College, and travels widely as a performer.
