![]() Cindy Lubar Bishop "I enjoy using the sound and feel of language as though I'm kneading dough. I often interweave sound particles suggested by elements of nature and dream." Cindy Lubar Bishop is a writer and vocalist who fashions compositions using the musical properties of spoken word and syllable. Cindy's powerful performances of her written and sung texts were featured in director Robert Wilson's early works, including his 12-hour opera which played at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and in Brazil and Denmark, a 7-day opus on a mountain in Shiraz, Iran, a 24-hour piece at the Opera Comique in Paris, and many others. Her signature 'Queen Victoria Speech' is featured on a CD-ROM about Wilson's early work. In her own performance art pieces, presented in the 70's and 80's at the Performing Garage, the Kitchen, and other such venues, she collaborated with artist Christopher Knowles, choreographer Gary Reigenborn, and composer Michael Riesman, as well as doing solos, and received NEA and CAPS grants at that time. Since 1995, Cindy has collaborated with Palo Alto based composer Peter Girard. Their premiere CD fourteen parts is a suite of songs combining layers of spoken and sung text with electronic instrumentation in a striking variety of ways. Cindy lives in Santa Rosa, California where she is an active member of two local writing groups, and has a consulting practice called Contemplative Webbing. Available CDs |
