![]() Justin H Brierley Born on the 31st anniversary of the first acid trip, colonial synth-rocker Justin H Brierley creates organic electronic music by combining the ancient art of improvisation with shiny new technology. Utilizing synthesizers, MIDI, and overdubs, Mr. Brierley, who performs as Banter/3.1, records every part in real time using Pro Tools and then improvises the lead track in performance. The result, which he has dubbed Improvised Dance Music for Intellectual Wall Flowers, is a free flowing electronic music with the sometimes slippery rhythms of Jazz, harmonic structures reminiscent of Bach, and textures influenced by synth pioneer Brian Eno as well as modern underground Hip-Hop. Throughout the spring of 2006 Brierley recorded the entirely self-produced album Banter/3.1~Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Winter '06/'07 has seen a flurry activity for Mr. Brierley, recording two albums, Banter/3.1~14 New Songs, and Beyond Beautiful Mountain Op.1 as Banter2.007. The latter work is comprised of forty-four short pieces based on Josef Matthias Hauer's Trope Chart I. Each piece contains two voices, one representing the left half of the trope, the other the right half. Together the forty-four tracks create one larger work. Available CDs |
