![]() Lawrence Casserley "I think of myself not only as a composer, but as an instrument designer ... The instrument and the piece are one concept." Lawrence Casserley has composed and performed live electronic music since the late 1960s, when he became one of the first students of electronic music at the Royal College of Music (London). He has worked frequently with mixed media, music theatre and new instruments, particularly with the groups Hydra in the 1970s, Electric Tubes and Electroacoustic Cabaret in the 1980s. He is best known for his current improvisational work with Evan Parker, featuring live digital sound processing of acoustic instruments using Max/MSP. Recent performances include the Colourscape Music Festival (London, Cambridgeshire, and Vienna), Sallis-Benney Theatre (Brighton), Institute for Contemporary Arts (London), Contemporary Music Days (Budapest), Soundart Festival (London), Queen Elizabeth Hall (London), Centre for Contemporary Arts (Glasgow, UK), Jazz Atelier (Ulrichsberg, Austria), Iwaki City Art Museum (Iwaki, Japan), Fondation Miro (Barcelona), Festival Horizontes (Punta Negra, Peru) ... Lawrence Casserley currently lives in London, serves as Director of the Colourscape Music Festivals, and travels widely as composer and performer. Available CDs |
