![]() Ellen Christi "I have learned, as a composer, to re-create what I hear in my mind and see, visually, in my travels. This can be a sophisticated method of communicating other realities that co-exist simultaneously within the present perception of the everyday." Ellen Christi is a composer, vocalist, producer of improvised jazz. As a jazz vocalist, Christi has worked in performance venues, ranging from multi-media theatrical productions to solo vocal concerts. She has performed and recorded with Ray Anderson, Mark Dresser, Andrew Cyrille, Reggie Workman, Rashid Ali, Ed Blackwell, William Parker, Lisa Sokolov, Jeanne Lee, Kenny Wheeler, Steve McCall, Lawrence 'Butch' Morris, Fiorenzo Sordini, Claudio Lodati ... She has performed at the Kool Jazz Festival (NYC), Festival of Voice (Boston), New Music Festival (Zurich), Women's Improvisational Festival (NYC), Grenoble Jazz Festival (France), G.R.I.M. Music Festival (Marseille), Vienna Jazz Festival (Austria), Ivrea Jazz Festival (Ivrea, Italy) ... Radio and television appearances have included WBAI, WNYC ... (New York), Radio Vienna, RAI/Uno & Due (Rome), Suisse Radio/TV (Zuric)h, National Public Radio (Washington, D.C.), WDR (Cologne), Sonatel TV 9 (Dakar, Senegal) ... She is a member of the Swiss trio Illustrio, of Joe Gallant's 22-piece ensemble Illuminati, and her own performing ensemble Aliens' Talk. She is presently developing a world music project with Vincent Nguini of Cameroon and Babacar Konate of Senegal. Ellen Christi is based in New York where she works with New York City Artists' Collective, a non-profit organization committed to developing creative independence for artists.
