![]() Francis Dhomont "Acousmatic Art was conceived from its beginnings to be heard without the use of visual intervention or performers on stage. It organizes morphologies and sonic spectra, images of sound, coming from a multiplicity of sources, but that the absence of visual identification makes anonymous, unifies and prompts a more attentive listening ... " Francis Dhomont is a pioneering composer of elecronic music. In Paris in the late 1940s, he intuitively discovered with magnetic wire what Pierre Schaeffer would later call "musique concrète" and began a lifetime of experimentation with the musical possibilities of sound recording. He is a five-time winner at the Bourges International Electroacoustic Music Competition, where he has also received the Magisterium prize. His prizes include the Prix Ars Electronica, Canada Council for the Arts Lynch-Staunton Prize, and awards in international competitions in Brazil, Spain, Italy, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. His texts and essays are published in many journals. He is the editor of L'espace du son, Musical co-editor of Dictionnaire des arts mediatiques ... He has taught at the Université de Montreal.
