Jerry Gerber

Jerry Gerber

Jerry Gerber is a composer whose work includes music for orchestra, piano, voice, and electronic instruments.

"My music is an expression of my life experiences. I understand music to be a language of metaphor, an art that is capable of inducing the most profound and mysterious sensations and emotions that humans can experience. But music is not just about emotion and subjectivity, as I also draw much inspiration from the infinite variety of patterns, processes and beauty which can be found throughout nature and the universe. Art to me is an attempt to organize pattern in a manner which reflects reality. The line between fantasy and truth is often extraordinarily subtle.

"My musical influences are many, ranging from renaissance vocal music of the 16th century, to baroque, classical, romantic and 20th century music. My music is also strongly influenced by American styles including blues, rock, folk music, jazz, contemporary classical music and traditional song. The musical influences of India and the Middle East have also found their way into my art."

Gerber composed original music for children's television show The Adventures of Gumby, airing daily on Nickelodeon. He has composed and produced music for a wide variety of projects including Loom, a Lucasfilm computer game and audio drama. His 'Concerto for Flute and Digital Ensemble' was commissioned by and premiered at the Sacramento New American Music Festival in November 1989. He has been a guest lecturer at Western Public Radio, Film Arts Foundation and Sacramento State University.

Jerry Gerber 's current projects include music for a Super-Nintendo basketball game, a CD-ROM project about pre-renaissance Europe, and for the new Sony Play Station.
