Erhard Grosskopf

Erhard Grosskopf

"In my music, sounds are combined by the logic of a process, in multiple layers and dimensions. Single sounds relate to one another in time, creating a timeless quality ... musical time is transformed into a spatial dimension."

Erhard Grosskopf is a composer of electronic music and multidimentional, spatial works for orchestra and ensembles. He describes his work as "process music".

His music has been performed at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, by the Berlin Philharmonic, at the World Expo 1970 in Osaka, and throughout the world. His honors include the Prix d'Italia, a 1995 jury selection by the International Society for Contemporary Music ... He has been a member of the Academy of Arts, Berlin, since 1994. Grosskopf composed his first electroacoustic music works at the Institute of Sonology at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. In the late 1960s, Groffkopf was a member of the Gruppe Neue Musik; among his works was a collaboration with painter Bernd Damke. He has taught at the Berlin Conservatory of Music, been resident at the German Academy in Rome and at the International Summer Course in New Music at Darmstadt, and served as artistic director of the concert series Insel Musik in Berlin.
