Meeting Derek in New York several years ago had nearly the same impact on me as meeting Cage." Joëlle Léandre, doublebass player extraordinaire, focuses on improvisation and contemporary music. As soloist, she has championed music by Cage and Scelsi. She has performed with contemporary music ensembles such as 2E2M, Itinéraire, l'Ensemble Intercontemporain ... With associates Rüdiger Carl and Carlos Zingaro, she co-founded The Canvas Trio. She has worked with Derek Bailey, Maggie Nicols, Lindsay Cooper, Irène Schweizer, Fred Frith, Evan Parker, Eric Watson, Lol Coxhill, Peter Kowald, William Parker, Barre Philips, Jon Rose, Paul Lovens ...
