Hugh Livingston

Hugh Livingston, composer, performer, is known for pioneering interactive techniques for cello and electronics. He is interested in adaptating Asian music to Western practice, and exploring new frontiers of acoustic cello technique.

He has premiered compositions by Morton Subotnick, Roger Reynolds, Jonathan Berger, Jonathan Harvey, Rand Steiger ... He has concertized extensively, including performances with the San Diego contemporary ensembles SIRIUS and SONOR. His awards include the Music of Japan Today competition for interpretation of Asian music, Crane School of Music competition for interpretation of music since 1970, and the Bach Society Prize for Excellence in Musicianship ...

Hugh Livingston is currently Visiting Scholar at Stanford University and Performer-in-Residence at University of California, Berkeley. He is also an editor of Paris Transatlantic, an international contemporary arts publication.
