Gordon Mumma

Gordon Mumma, electronic music pioneer, is a prolific composer and performer.

He was among the first composers to design his own circuitry. From 1966 to 1976, he performed with the Sonic Arts Union (with Robert Ashley, David Behrman and Alvin Lucier). With John Cage and David Tudor, he was one of the three composer-musicians with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. His artistic collaborators have included Anthony Braxton, Marcel Duchamp, Toshi Ichiyanagi, Jasper Johns, Pauline Oliveros, Tom Robbins, Frederic Rzewski, William Winant, Christian Wolff ... His writings on the contemporary performance arts and technology are is published in several languages. As an electronic-music engineer he designed equipment for Expo70 in Osaka, Japan.

Mumma recently retired from a position as Professor of Music at the University of California.
