Elliott Schwartz is composer, author, and educator.

His music has been performed by the Minnesota Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra ... He has received awards from Gaudeamus Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, Library of Congress ... he has been a guest lecturer at Oxford University, Royal Danish Academies at Aarhus and Copenhagen ... he was featured guest composer at Northwestern University, the University of Oregon, Cornell University Festival ... his work has been discussed by the British Broadcasting Corporation and National Public Radio (USA). He is the author of Music Since 1945: Issues, Materials, Literature (with Daniel Godfrey), Electronic Music: A Listener's Guide, and other important text books about contemporary music. He has served as President of the College Music Society, National Chairman of the American Society of University Composers (now renamed the Society of Composers, Inc.), Vice-President of the American Music Center, and President of the Maine Composers Forum.

Elliott Schwartz lives and works near Portland, Maine (U.S.), where is the Robert K. Beckwith Professor of Music at Bowdoin College.
