![]() James Tenney When John Cage was asked, in 1989, with whom he would study, were he a young student, he responded "James Tenney." Composer, pianist, and conductor, James Tenney is well known as a pioneer in computer music, for work that he began as research composer at Bell Labs in the early 1960s. As co-organizer, conductor, and pianist for the Tone Roads Chamber Ensemble, he played a role in introducing the music of Ives, Cage, Feldman, Ruggles, Varese, and others to a wider audience. He has taught at Brooklyn Polytechnic, New School (New York City), University of California at Santa Cruz, and York University (Toronto)...
