Ivar Mikhashoff (1941-1993)

Internationally acclaimed solo and orchestral pianist, Ivar Mikhashoff performed at Warsaw Autumn, Zagreb Biennale, Holland Festival, and Huddersfield Festival and recorded for broadcast centers in Europe, Hong Kong, and NHK/Tokyo. John Cage, Lukas Foss, Christian Wolff, Henry Brant, Sylvano Bussotti, Per Norgaard, Luis de Pablo, and Conlon Nancarrow composed music for him. Over 100 composers wrote 3-minute tangos for his International Tango Collection. He received Fulbright scholarships for study in Denmark and Argentina. In 1989, he was awarded the Arbeiterkammerpreis from the Austrian government.

Yvar Mikhashoff lived in Buffalo New York, taught at the University at Buffalo from 1973 until his death. He was Associate Director of the Almeida Festival in London, Advisor to the Music Factory in Bergen, Norway, and co-founder of the North American New Music Festival.
