Music by Christopher Dobrian for piano, often a Yamaha Disklavier, in which most of the composition and performance is done by computer programs, sometimes with help by Daniel Koppelman, pianist. As Dobrian writes, "The intention is not for the programs to emulate traditional musical behavior, but rather to explore new musical possibilities implicit in certain paradigms of computation or computer decision-making."

The compositions are 'Entropy', 'Unnatural Selection', 'Line/Phase Minutiae', 'Degueudoudeloupe', and 'There's Just One Thing You Need to Know'. Each composition is based on a different algorithm. And the results are often fascinating because the algorithms clearly have thought of things that humans would not have thought of. The results are also impressive in that Dobrian has extended the piano to the limits of what the instrument itself can play.

Lush, virtuoso music composed and performed by pianist Daniel Koppelman. Koppelman's highly pianistic compositions integrate a wide range of musical literature and sensibilities. His eclectic approach brings together the Romanticism of Chopin, pianistic impressionism of Debussy, and the jazz inflections of Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea. Many of the works on this recording make use of the Yamaha Disklavier (MIDI piano) and synthesizers, addressing sophisticated and effectively utilized interactive computer programs that cause electronic sounds to emerge from finely crafted piano figures. The results are always captivating and musically intriguing, as in 'Unnatural Selection', based on a computer program by Christopher Dobrian, which spontaneously creates an accompaniment based on the music improvised by the pianist.
The compositions are 'digitalisman', 'Pleasant Under Glass', 'Three Preludes for Processed Piano', 'Unnatural Selection' (program by Christopher Dobrian), 'Re-Play', 'Simple Harmonic Motion', and 'rorondondo'. Highly recommended.
